Cornwall's outdoor activity and adventure holidays, breaks and weekends abound on land and sea. Choose from a choice of Cornwall fishing holidays, especially around Looe Harbour in East Cornwall or take a fishing trip from Newlyn near Penzance or from Hugh Town's harbour on St Mary's, the largest of the Scilly Islands.

Cornwall golf is on the menu too, with some of the best British golf courses here in the Lizard, around St Austell Bay, along the North Cornwall Coast and even on St Mary's over in the Scilly Islands. Many offers sublime views and well equipped club houses. Cornwall diving couldn't be better. Learn to scuba dive at Looe in East Cornwall and take a trip out to Looe Island for superb ship wreck diving. One of Cornwall's best diving spots is off the Lizard coast around the Manacles reef. For diving on the Scilly Isles check out those clear waters around St Martins - it all happens in the water around the Cornish coast!

Cornwall Golf

Golf in Newquay Cornwall couldn't be better, with a challenging course in the centre of Newquay itself, plus a scattering of superb golf courses just outside of Newquay. An excellent range of golf courses are to be found in and around Newquay, from challenging 18 hole golf courses to pitch and putt golf for all the family at both Holywell and at Newlyn East near Lappa. The best beginner Newquay golf course is East Newlyn near the Lappa Valley Leisure & Steam Railway complex. One of the most challenging golf courses is the central Newquay golf course, an 18 hole course high on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. A handicap is required here, and this challenging course is popular with Cornwall Golf competitions. Head also to nearby Perranporth golf course, with it's 18 hole, Par 72 course.

A choice of North Cornwall golf courses are to be found in this region. One of the best, with championship course and dramatic views of the Atlantic coast is Trevose Golf and Country Club. It's almost a holiday complex in itself, with not just a choice of golf courses including a championship course, but an outdoor heated swimming pool, beauty salon, clubhouse, restaurant and games room all on-site! Visitors to the St Austell Bay area in South Cornwall are very well served with a choice of golf course. St Austell Golf Club's course is an 18 Hole, Par 69 course requiring a handicap. It's a parkland countryside course, with excellent club house facilities including bar, restaurant services and a driving range.St Austell Golf Club, Tregongeeves, St Austell, Cornwall PL26 7DS. Tel: 01726 74756. Porthpean Golf Club, Porthpean, St Austell, Cornwall PL26 6AY. Tel: 01726 64613, is an 18 hole, Par 67 golf course just down the coast from St Austell with superb views across St Austell Bay. A good choice for beginners, as there's no handicap requirement here at Porthpean Golf Club and all are welcome.

On the largest Isles of Scilly there's an superb golf course. St Mary's has it's own golf club and 9 hole golf course on the North of the island. Expect panoramic views of Tresco, Bryher, Samson and St.Martins from this 18 tees golf course. The club house has a licensed bar, sun terrace and offers evening meals. You don't need a handicap for this golf course either. Alternatively head to the Lizard for one of the best golf courses in the UK. Mullion Golf Club, Cury, Helston, Cornwall TR12 7BP. Tel: 01326 241176. 18 Holes, and Par 70, This Cornwall golf course at Mullion is one of the top ten golf courses in the UK! Expect stunning Lizard coastal views at what is the most westerly golf course in the UK! A handicap is required.

Cornwall Fishing Holidays

Cornwall's fishing industry and heritage is renowned, particularly in the old Cornish fishing villages of Newlyn near Penzance, which still has a thriving working fish market and harbour, and to the east in beautiful Looe, which again still has a fishing harbour. There's some choice fish restaurants around Cornwall serving up fresh catch, notably Rick Stein's seafood empire in Padstow North Cornwall.

You can try your luck on either a fishing trip of fishing holiday, with a choice of sea or lake fishing. Boating and boat trips, and sailing and fishing are popular leisure pursuits at St Ives in the Far West of Cornwall. It's easy to hook into a boat trip from St Ives Harbour, where pleasure boats leave daily either out to see to watch Atlantic seals, or along the coast past the Tate along the glorious St Ives Bay - if you're on the lookout for sea birds such boat trips are well worth doing, as well as taking in one of the world's most beautiful bays - it's in the world's most beautiful bays list is St Ives Bay along with Mounts Bay.

Get your fresh fish here in Newlyn at it's famous fish market - some of the best fish in the country. Mackerel is one of the most common catches. Newlyn's harbour dates back to the Medieval period, A good time to visit Newlyn is during the Fish Festival, held annually every August Bank Holiday. Check the Newlyn Fish Festival website right for full details on this years events and happenings. Although, sadly, the Pilchard Works & Museum in Newlyn had to close you can still, thank goodness, buy what can only be described as the best salted pilchards in the world.

For the best choice of Cornish fishing holidays, breaks and weekends, boat trips and day fishing trips head for Looe Harbour on the East Cornwall Coast. Take a stroll down to East Looe Quay for a choice of fishing trips where you book direct on the quay and head off on a Mackerel Fishing trip. All rods and tackle are usually provided and Power Boat trips can also be booked direct on East Looe Quay.

Cornwall Scuba Diving and Shipwreck Diving

Cornwall diving is some of the best in Britain, with good clear waters for excellent visibility off the coast, and the Atlantic Gulf Stream keep the water temperatures warm. Diving around the Manacles off Cornwall's Lizard Coast is particularly popular, and a number of Diving companies offer great scuba diving courses and day trips to the Manacles and elsewhere along the Cornish Coast.

Clear waters around St Martin's, one of the Isles of Scilly, offers excellent conditions for diving and snorkelling, and St Mary's too offers an opportunity for diving trips.

Fancy learning to scuba dive whilst you're in Looe? You're in one of the best areas in Cornwall to do it. One of the best companies offering diving training and trips in the Looe area is Looe Diving. Looe Diving are famous for the wreck diving adventure - check their website for a map of the numerous dive sites they cover. Expect to see a wide variety of marine life from soft corals and anemones to Wrasse, Bass, and many other plants and animals.

Cornwall Sailing

Fowey on the South Cornwall coast is prime sailing territory. Fowey's Royal Regatta takes place in Mid August (usually the third full week) annually, and is a superb event with lots going on, not just on the sailing side but on land as well. Many of the events are free, and great for families. These include fireworks displays on the Quay, Red Arrows Displays, Raft Races, Childrens events, Grand Draws and Carnival Processions. Live music is also hosted on the town's quay!! Daily sailing races are held ranging from full on cruiser racing, to childrens' dingy races. All the key sailing organisations, including Fowey Yacht Club and Fowey Gallants Sailing club are involved. The event is a great spectacle and well worth hooking in to!

The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club has been based in Falmouth since 1872, and is one of the key organisers of many of the sailing race meets in the Falmouth area. Falmouth is sailing basically, with many local residents and their families owning boats and participating competitively and socially in local sailing events. Not surprising then that the National Maritime Museum is located here in Falmouth. Take time to visit the excellent Falmouth Maritime Museum to find out more about the history of sailing in Cornwall.

As you'd expect from the Scilly Isles, there's a choice of sailing and boat trips available. For boat trips from St. Mary's to the other Scilly Isles head down to Hugh Town's Harbour - there's a selection of boat trips and sailing options down there.

Many Cornish towns and villages on the coast have their own long-standing sailing clubs, for example at Looe, Falmouth, St Ives and Saltash. Ever heard of Cornish Gig racing - rather popular in Cornwall and many Cornish towns like Saltash have their own Gig racing team - long wooden rowing boats. The Scilly Isles has a major Gig meet annually too.
