Padstow is probably one of the most popular, and growing, holiday location on the North Cornwall Coast. You can see why, it has many flavours! Rick Stein's famous seafood restaurant, plus cafe, fish and chip shop and food outlet in Padstow has certainly fuelled Padstow's fame as a Cornish hotspot for superb restaurants, especially seafood. Overlooking Padstow's pretty harbour is the delightful Basement Cafe (superb coffee here!). Rick Stein, now internationally renowned chef, and his passion for seafood are legendary and Padstow on the North Cornwall Coast is not exactly a surprise location if you've a passion for seafood. Padstow offers a daily superb choice of fresh seafood, with still a local thriving fishing industry and scene. The Stein 'empire' includes not just his renowned seafood restaurant, but also the Georgian seafront hotel St Petrocs at Padstow, a Rick Stein fish and chip shop, a cookery school, a gift shop, Rick Stein's cafe, a patisserie, and a deli on South Quay. His Wine Cellar however is in Australia! Rick's Jack Russell 'Chalky' lives here too! Stein has certainly been good for the area - particularly fishermen and the fishing industry, and all his outlets have an accessible, friendly feel, open to all! (but you'll need a bit of cash).

The National Lobster Hatchery Padstow
The National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow, situated on the Quay itself is well worth a visit to, in their words' see marine biology in action. This Hatchery works with local fisherman - they bring in pregnant female lobsters whose young are then nurtured and released back into the wild when they're able to do so.
Plenty of research goes on here as well, and it's open to the public with a visitors centre and gift shop on-site. Check the website link to the right for full details.
